26.2 Miles

Stephanie Anderson is a contestant on the Biggest Loser 9, which airs Tuesday nights on NBC. I am a fan of the show as I am on a weight loss journey myself. On January 2, 2010 I proclaimed to the world that I would lose 87 pounds and reach 199lbs. To date I am down 37lbs and have been happy with the progress. I broke the 250lb mark this weekend which was a major psychological milestone for me. So a good friend, PKP brother, and co-worker of mine knows Stephanie from college (San Diego State University). He mentioned this to me when the show first aired, and biased or not, I became an instant back of hers. I became a fan of her facebook page and have enjoyed the pictures and updates. I had an opportunity to meet her a couple weeks ago when my daughter and I participated in a 5k run/walk to benefit the prevention of Child Abuse.

Steph was very sweet indeed and seemed truly happy with her own journey thus far.

This morning she wrote the following on her wall:

"Nearly 7 months ago for The Biggest Loser's first challenge my Mom and I biked a combined 26.2 miles in well over 2+ hours (coming in 7th out of 9th place just barely keeping us safe on the ranch). About 3 months later for an at home challenge I biked the marathon distance on my own in 1hr 37min. Today I biked the same... distance in 1hr 17min!! Cut 20 minutes off my solo time while even adding 2 levels of resistance. I may have left the BL ranch but this experience is about so much more."

Awesomness...This has inspired me to bicycle 26.2 miles myself. I have no clue what to expect but this will be my baseline and afterward, when I am crying in the corner, I will take stock, regroup, and look to try again in 8 weeks and see what happens! I am hoping to do it in under two hours.

Aftermath

So everything was going well until about 4 minutes in, then I realized keeping a 13mph speed was tougher than it looks. At mile 14 my left leg went numb. This was only an hour and ten minutes in. So I couldn't complete it, but have set a new baseline for myself...to still complete 26.2 miles. When I am healed in a month I will try again, for now I will remember to stretch and work my way up to the marathon distance!
